It was a famous and magnificent Buddhist temple in Chang'an City during the Tang Dynasty, built by imperial decree of the Li Tang royal family, and is one of the ancestral temples of the Yogacara school. The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda was built to preserve the Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back to Chang'an by Master Xuanzang from India via the Silk Road. The pagoda has seven stories and a total height of 64.517 meters; the temple also preserves numerous steles, Buddhist statues, and other cultural relics. Master Xuanzang translated Buddhist scriptures and propagated Buddhism here, making it a Buddhist center and cultural exchange hub at that time, playing an important role in the spread of Buddhism and cultural exchange, and possessing a profound historical and cultural heritage.
