Sanxingdui Museum Tour: Explore Mysterious Bronze Artifacts
Sanxingdui Museum is located on the banks of Yazi River in the west of Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, in the northeast corner of Sanxingdui Site, a national key cultural relic protection unit. The museum is 38 kilometers south of Chengdu and 26 kilometers north of Deyang, covering an area of about 1,000 acres. It is the first batch of national 4A-level scenic spots and the first batch of national first-level museums. The museum was founded in August 1992, and the old museum was officially opened in October 1997. The new museum was officially completed and opened on July 26, 2023. Its main building means "Three Stars, the Eye of Ancient Shu", with a construction area of 54,400 square meters and an exhibition area of 22,000 square meters. It is the largest single building of a site museum in the southwest region. The basic display of Sanxingdui Museum is themed "Sanxingdui: Sleeping for Thousands of Years and Awakening to Shock the World". It is divided into three exhibition areas: "Century Dream Chasing", "Majestic Royal Capital", and "Heaven, Earth, Man and God". A total of more than 1,500 pieces (sets) of precious cultural relics unearthed from the Sanxingdui site are exhibited, which comprehensively and systematically displays the archaeological excavation and latest research results of Sanxingdui. The establishment of Sanxingdui Museum has made people re-understand Bashu culture and changed the view of the historians, that is, compared with the Central Plains, the ancient Bashu region was a relatively closed place, with no connection or little contact with the Central Plains civilization. The Sanxingdui Museum and its ruins prove that it should be an important cultural center around the Xia and Shang dynasties in China, or even earlier, and has a certain connection with the Central Plains culture, verifying the authenticity of the records of the ancient Shu Kingdom in ancient documents. In the past, the historians believed that the birthplace of the Chinese nation was the Yellow River Basin, and then gradually spread to the whole of China. The discovery of Sanxingdui pushed the history of the ancient Shu Kingdom back to 5,000 years ago, proving that the Yangtze River Basin is the birthplace of the Chinese nation just like the Yellow River Basin, and proving that the Yangtze River Basin has an ancient civilization that is no less than that of the Yellow River Basin. Some people believe that Sanxingdui represents the ancient Qiang and Yi culture.
