About this experience
Experience a hands-on introduction to the art of batik in this guided woodenware workshop. You’ll begin with a simple overview of what batik is, how it’s traditionally made, and its cultural significance.
Next, you’ll choose from provided design templates and sketch your chosen pattern onto your wooden piece. You’ll then learn how to apply hot wax using a tjanting, creating the classic batik resist effect. After waxing, you’ll add colours using dyes and watch your design develop. Once the colours set, the wax is removed to reveal your completed artwork. At the end of the session, you’ll bring home a personalised wooden batik item that you created from start to finish
