Tokyo: One-Day-Only Sumo Retirement Ceremony at Ryogoku Kokugikan
On 3 October 2026, enter Ryogoku Kokugikan, home of Tokyo’s Grand Sumo Tournaments, for a rare one-day-only official retirement ceremony.
Former top-division wrestler Hidenoumi will face his younger brother, active top-division wrestler Tobizaru, in one final match before his topknot is removed. Guests will also see a ring-entering ceremony by professional wrestlers, elite high-school wrestlers face professionals, the topknot-cutting ritual and Hidenoumi’s return with his new hairstyle.
A limited Topknot-Cutting Participation Ticket lets guests personally make one ceremonial cut under staff guidance. This is not included in standard Chair Seat or Traditional Box Seat tickets.
